Love this.
I have to admit that I don't really bother looking at DVF anymore. I always know what I'll find. 70's prints, wrap dresses and the same model. So I skip it and catch up on it in store. I used to style using DVF so I know her work very well.
However, a small image made me stop and go back. I had forgotten that Jonathon Saunders (one of my favorites) had taken over from Diane Von herself and produced his first line for the brand. I'm in love with it.
I found the usual prints, 70s influence and wrap dresses before being seduced by the fresh take on the brand. I loved the layering, the alternative presentation, the shapes and structure of clothes.
I haven't enjoyed a DVF collection like this in years. It's gorgeous.
Saunders sadly closed his label in 2015. There was much speculation that he would take over the Dior position but it was announced he would take over from Diane Von Furstenberg. The take over has given a well deserved and much needed boost to the designs. It now reads as much more modern and less tired. Saunders is also working on accessories too which have never really been a focus for DVF. "I think it's important that all the elements of the line work in harmony with each other, and that seems a bit obvious, but it's something that I think we needed to work on when I first started." He also plans to reintroduce the concept of knitwear to the brand as a focus. Which is interesting. I don't normally associate knitwear with DVF.
The images available are only part of a small preview of 30 images ahead of the debut collection launch. It's clear that if these are anything to go by then we could be in for a treat.
His style is evident everywhere on this collection. In the clashing prints, eye catching colors and gorgeous shapes. I was heartbroken when he closed his brand after twelve years. I also still think his Topshop collection was the nicest designer collaboration they have had.
